What our tree felling covers

Safe, controlled felling of single trees and groups, including trees with ash dieback, with the timber recycled into firewood and the site left clear.

Felling planned around the site

Where there is room the tree is felled whole. Where there is not, it comes down in sections from the MEWP or by rope.

Ash dieback

Infected ash becomes brittle, so safe removal matters. We fell affected trees before they become a danger to the area.

Diseased and decayed trees

We have removed a beech after the decay fungus Kretzschmaria deusta was found in it, before it could fail.

Stumps on the same visit

Stump grinding or full removal can be added, so the ground is ready for replanting or building.

Replanting

We aim to replant two trees for every one we remove, and the timber is recycled into firewood.

What tree felling costs

Your priceFree quoteQuoted after we have seen the job
Every job is different, so we do not publish a price list. The price depends on:
  • The size, species and condition of the tree
  • Access, and how close it is to buildings, roads or cables
  • Whether the tree is protected and needs consent
  • What happens to the timber, brash and woodchip

Protected trees, TPOs and conservation areas

Some trees in Somerset and Dorset are protected by a Tree Preservation Order, or stand in a conservation area. Work on a protected tree needs consent from Somerset Council or Dorset Council first, and the liability for unauthorised work falls on the tree owner, not the contractor.

We check whether a tree is protected before any work is agreed, and we only carry out work on a protected tree once consent is in place. If you are not sure, mention it on the form and we will look into it for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do you fell a tree safely?
If there is a clear drop zone, the tree is felled in one piece with controlled cuts. Close to buildings, roads or cables it is taken down in sections from our Spider MEWP or by rope, so nothing falls where it should not.
Does a tree with ash dieback need felling?
Not always, but badly affected ash becomes brittle and can drop limbs or fail. If it stands near a road, path, house or play area we will advise whether it should come down, and fell it safely if it should.
Do I need permission to fell a tree?
Protected trees and trees in conservation areas need council consent first, and felling a lot of timber can need a felling licence. We check what applies before any work is agreed.
What happens to the timber?
You can keep it for your wood burner, or we take it away. Timber we take is recycled into firewood and the woodchip goes to local farms and animal sanctuaries.
Can you remove the stump too?
Yes. We can grind the stump below the surface or remove it completely on the same job, depending on what you plan to do with the ground.
How much does tree felling cost?
It depends on the size of the tree, the space around it, access and what happens to the timber. We assess the job and give you a free quote.
